EDITOR’S NOTE
Since the Milwaukee Bucks were eliminated from the NBA playoffs, I’m now only watching for the drama — and there has been plenty of it. One person living for all the action? Mariska Hargitay, whom Ben Stiller describes as the “envy” of every Knicks fan for this reason. On a different court, Naomi Osaka made a major comeback — and fans gave her a new amusing nickname. Travis Kelce should take notes, considering Jason is begging him to reconsider their mom’s nickname. Now, let’s get to some other sports headlines…

What to look out for in our latest episode.
The One Where the Athletes Were Best Dressed
What's going on: No shade to the NBA or NHL playoffs, but this week’s real highlight was the Met Gala, where the athletes’ looks scored plenty of points. From the internet’s pick for best-dressed player, Gabby Thomas in her off-the-shoulder ensemble, to these New York Liberty stars making their gala debut, athletes understood the assignment. And while fans debate whether Simone Biles’s look deserved a gold medal, others can’t get over the couples that brought chemistry to the blue carpet (see: Jalen Hurts and Bry Burrows, and Dwyane Wade and Gabrielle Union).
Our take: The Met Gala has been a magnet for Hollywood’s biggest stars, but athletes have steadily gained a presence over the years. This year’s gala was even co-chaired by LeBron James (who RSVP’d no last minute) and Lewis Hamilton. Sha’Carri Richardson, Angel Reese, and Biles also served on the host committee. Their involvement shows how fashion and sports are increasingly intertwined, especially thanks to women athletes who’ve been leading that charge. (Just look at the WNBA tunnel walks.) As Reese once put it, “You can be cute and go out there and still ball.”

Our Well Played co-hosts and friends of the show tackle listener Qs.
The Lakers suffered a first-round exit in the NBA Playoffs this year. Now, questions are swirling about LeBron James’s future, but is it all talk or is any of it real?

LeBron said he didn’t “have an answer” when asked how much longer he plans to play following the Lakers’ early playoff exit — but we’ve seen this move before. LeBron has used moments like this to put pressure on the front office to improve the roster. To me, it’s all talk. He’s likely to stay with the Lakers next season, but he wants to see changes. And we won’t have to wait long for clarity — he has a $52.6 million player option for 2025-2026 season, which he must decide on by June 29.

Well Played co-hosts Blake Morgan and Caroline Hendershot caught up with track and field gold medalists Tara and Hunter Davis-Woodhall in Tampa, Florida. (And who could forget that viral hug seen around the world at the Paris Olympics.) They talked about women’s sports, their relationship, and answered some rapid-fire questions…
Q: Who’s more likely to forget something important on race day?
Hunter: There hasn’t been a meet in the past four years where Tara has remembered socks. You would think that’s the easiest thing.
Q: Who would be more likely to run a marathon?
Tara: Neither of us.
Hunter: If there was any chance, it would be me.
Q: Who’s the person with more hidden talents?
Hunter: Tara. Anything that she does she’s just incredibly good at — anything athletic, any kind of game, she just picks things up so quickly. She is absolutely a super human.
